Friday Tip: See the Learning Hiding in Everyday Life (Free PDF!)

Hey Reader!

A parent told me this week,
"These ideas are fun, but it still feels like fluff. How do I know it really counts?"

That feeling is so common. We were all conditioned to think learning only “counts” when it looks like school — worksheets, grades, and structure.
But real learning doesn’t need a curriculum. It needs curiosity, connection, and a parent who notices what’s already happening.

This week’s tip helps you see it for yourself.

🎃 Learning Circles

I made you a simple printable with two pages:

  • A Halloween Learning Circles page to get you started, and SHOW you the learning!
  • A blank Learning Circles page you can use for anything

Here’s how to use it:

  1. Write an activity in the center — like “Halloween,” “LEGO building,” or “playing pretend.”
  2. Around it, jot what your kids actually did - put them near the subject that might have a little bit of connection.
  3. You may discover that some activities have a little bit of math, a little science, a little language arts, etc.
    Real Life overlap, right?

When you start noticing how much learning happens in one ordinary activity, it becomes impossible to unsee it.

Learning Circles & Connections

I made this 2 page PDF for all of you on the email list!
1 Page shows how to see the learning for Halloween, the other one is blank and ready for you to use!

What You’ll See on the Halloween Example

  • Carving pumpkins = science + art
  • Dividing candy & estimating time = math
  • Decorating the porch = fine arts
  • Visiting neighbors = social studies
  • Texting costume photos, watching Halloween movies = tech
  • Telling ghost stories, learning funny rhymes = language arts

None of this is fluff — it’s learning in motion.

Even as I wrote them out, I could see how other subjects are in each of these activities too!

Try This Today:
Print your blank Learning Circle and use it for whatever’s happening this weekend — maybe baking, building, gaming, or even a lazy Saturday.

The more you practice noticing, the more confidence you’ll build in your ability to see learning as it unfolds.
